Through an easy to use web interface, LearningPoint
provides staff, pupils and parents access to their own personal
data, applications and reporting facilities whenever and wherever
they may be, using a standard Internet browser.
User Interfaces
Upon log in, each user (Student, Teacher, Parent or School
Administrator) views LearningPoint in the same manner but with
additional options depending to their security level.
The School Administrator has the ability to create and modify
users, subjects and applications. The Teacher user has access to
the school's MIS application and the ability to reset passwords.
The Parent user has access to the reporting features for their
attending children. The Student user has access only to the basic
features that other users have including their personal and shared
data, specific applications according to subjects and classes
registered and email, safe Internet, Virtual Learning Environment
(VLE), bookmarks and the user's private BackPack.
Linked Applications
Applications run from multiple networked servers which allows
for user connections to be balanced for the optimal user
experience. Within LearningPoint, School Administrators create
links to the installed applications and assign them to specific
groups, whether it is a group of users, a class or a subject.
Applications are located in groups or folders and launched with
a single-click. LearningPoint requires a small Active-X or Java
control with a one-time install. Almost all applications in use
within schools today can be delivered through LearningPoint -
either via RDP/Terminal Server or, in the case of media rich
applications, streamed via the network.
e-Portfolios and personal private spaces
LearningPoint enables schools to achieve the DfES goal of
personalised learning through the ability to carry work easily from
Primary to Secondary school as it can be managed externally to the
educational organisations. With this method, data is linked and
stays with the pupil through they life as a LearningPoint user.
LearningPoint allows the tailoring of the user environment to
the abilities and age group of the pupils using it.
Each Student and Teacher user is allocated an amount of personal
private space in the LearningPoint BackPack - accessible only by
the individual user. Whilst e-portfolios are supported through a
familiar "My Space" type extension to LearningPoint that allows
staff and pupils alike to customise and personalise the environment
to present their achievements.
Delivering e-portfolios through technology that is familiar to
students and staff, reduces the time to introduce concepts and
systems, whilst the ability to personalise and customise the
environment stimulates creativity and involvement.
Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
The VLE gives Student and Teacher access to custom created
content and courses designed for school subjects and classes.
LearningPoint takes advantage of the school VLE and enables single
sign-on so that the user is not required to enter different
usernames and passwords. Once authenticated into LearningPoint, the
user can launch the schools Moodle or Sharepoint sites and are not
be required to log on again.
Access to the VLE is seen as a very important tool and therefore
an icon is attached to the top bar navigation sections so that the
user does not have to search looking for the correct icon getting
the user connect more quickly. LearningPoint, as delivered,
integrates with the popular Moodle™ course management system to
provide Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) functionality.
Moodle™ is a fully featured solution that allows an
organisation's own subject matter experts to create their own
custom lesson plans and coursework whilst supporting a vast library
of SCORM-compliant courseware that allows an organisation to
continue using courseware that has proven effective to teaching and
learning.
Should an organisation wish to use an alternative VLE solution
to Moodle™, this can be easily integrated into the LearningPoint
portal to provide single sign-on authentication and authorisation
to the chosen VLE resources.
Parent Portal
The LearningPoint Parent Portal provides a secure communications
platform and allows parents, students, teachers and administrators
to access student information via the internet in school or at
home.
Through the Parent Portal, a parent can login anytime from
anywhere they have an internet connection and view up-to-the-minute
information about their children. LearningPoint Parent Portal
utilises industry's most advanced password and encryption
technologies to create a secure environment in which to access and
view sensitive information.
LearningPoint Parent Portal harnesses the data collection,
storage and analysis power of Capita SIMS and combines it with the
power of the internet. This accessible yet secure system of
information dissemination takes place automatically and once
deployed requires no additional work from teaching staff or
administrators.
LearningPoint Parent Portal connects parents to school life - in
real-time. Parents can review their child's current homework
assignments, correspond with teachers and administrators, and view
their child's attendance and assessment history.
Most importantly, LearningPoint's Parent Portal enables a parent
to play a more active role in their child's education.
